I have no intention whatsoever of betraying photography with this deviation, I was just fooling around with my newly-bought photoshop (which until now I didn't have) and I liked the outcome... but I'm posting it because I'd like some feedback since this is my very first manipulation!! Is the light fine? Is the hair too flat? Please leave some comments, I want to learn!!! =)

The hair looks kind of, like, one large strand, but that could just because of the colour. The light is fine, don't worry about that. Personally, I like how the sky looks pink, in my opinion, it looks like it's faking a promise of what's to come.

That's great, thank you so much! Can I just suggest putting a few highlights in the hair? Just draw in streaks with the pen tool, then smudge them out a bit, that should do the trick :D Great first manip, though!
